Pu's tend to be a bit microphonic and the neck are known to be "baseballbat" shaped, huge fat necks, even on their sudent models. Those are pretty decent made Kawai's from the early days, before they went into plywood mania. Does anyone have any tips for proper bridge distance, etc? I am also guessing that a different neck of any flavor will mean that I'll need to relocate the bridge, which is great - the Teisco-style one that's on there is mounted with 2 1/2" screws, so I would probably just redrill for a tune-o-matic roller of some flavor. ![]() Assuming I find a workable neck, should I opt to sand the neck down or enlarge the pocket to fit? I'm thinking about getting a squire/affinity/other cheapo fender neck to bolt on, but wondering if anyone has had success or can offer advice on the matter or tips on something that would work well. The neck pocket is pretty narrow (I think it's right around 2 1/16" wide), and the neck itself is a shorter scale. The body looks and sounds pretty good, the pickups are interesting, and the tremolo is even pretty okay (hey, at least it locks in place) so the only real problem areas are the neck and bridge. I'm thinking about modding into a decent player. I have this old Kawai Jaguar copy I picked up a while ago that is really a nice looking guitar, with a surprisingly pretty sunburst/tortoiseshell PG/chrome control plate look going on (I can add pics when I get home).
